Will Smith slapped Chris Rock

Will Smith appears to slap Chris Rock following Oscars joke about Jada Pinkett Smith

Smith approached Rock from the audience after Rock made a joke about Pinkett Smith's baldness.

The moment was so outrageous, viewers wondered if it was a joke or a planned bit. But to make matters more confusing, Smith returned to his seat and screamed at Rock.

Roughly 40 minutes after the incident, Smith returned to the stage to accept the Oscar for best actor

and apologized to the Academy and his fellow nominees for the incident, but did not mention Rock by name.

Smith said, "I know to do what we do, you gotta be able to take abuse and have people talk people about you.

Smith said, "I know to do what we do, you gotta be able to take abuse and have people talk people about you.

In this business, you gotta have people disrespecting you. And you gotta smile and pretend that's ok."

A short time later, rapper and actor Diddy took the stage to honor the 50th anniversary celebration of “The Godfather.” But first, he addressed Smith and Rock's altercation.

“Will and Chris, we’re going to solve that like family. ... Right now we’re moving on with love. Everybody make some noise," he said.
